Chamber Hosts State of the City Address

Guntersville, Ala.— The Lake Guntersville Chamber of Commerce hosted the State of the City Address Aug. 14 in a private hangar located at the Guntersville Municipal Airport. Mayor Leigh Dollar delivered an update detailing both the city’s achievements and its future plans.

“Each year as I prepare for this address I am amazed at the accomplishments in Guntersville over a year’s time. This year is no different and we are not finished yet,” she said.

One of the biggest city accomplishments is City Harbor, Guntersville’s newest and largest attraction. Dollar said it has generated $1.3 million in new tax revenues.

“The City Harbor has upped our tourism significantly,” she said. “The city continues to receive tremendous accolades and publicity for City Harbor. I can assure you that a lot of cities in Alabama that have water are looking for ways to duplicate City Harbor. There is nothing like setting the standard.”

Dollar spoke about Conners Island, an industrial park located off of U.S. Hwy, 431, and the new developments planned for the near future. The park will bring new businesses and residents to the area, boosting the local economy.

“Over the last year, the Industrial Development Board has closed on eight sales on property located in the park,” she said. “If you have not been to Conners Island recently, I am certain you will be surprised with the changes being made.”

In addition to showcasing these big projects, Dollar highlighted local businesses, organizations and employees who contribute to the success of Guntersville. She closed the State of the City Address with a heartfelt thanks to the Chamber of Commerce.

“The Chamber is an invaluable partner that not only supports the city but also the businesses of Guntersville,” Dollar said. “If the businesses are successful, the city is successful. The City of Guntersville appreciates the support and partnership with the Chamber to help our city.”
